It is with a heavy heart, and after many sleepless nights that I write this. For just under 40 years, Great Alaska Adventures has been selling and delivering our own brand of Alaskan adventures for clients from around the globe. A family-run business from day 1, we are incredibly proud of the experiences we and our committed staff have provided our guests over the years. The once-in-a-lifetime trips we have provided have been modeled after the memories our own family made in the great state of Alaska. Each summer since 1981, our family has been "boots on the ground" delivering these trips with our amazing staff.
The reality is that this "handcrafted" nature of our trips, combined with the challenges of the last few years, has put an undue strain on the family, as we deal with both personal health issues as well as the reality of the ongoing pandemic. These trips were never designed to be easy to deliver- they require everything we have on a daily basis, and that is part of what makes them so special. That said, we have come to realize that operating these trips is no longer sustainable for us, as a family. As we look toward the future, we have made the difficult decision to not operate Great Alaska Adventures, or Alaska BearCamp in 2022 or beyond.
This decision comes at the end of an incredibly successful 2021 season. (which made this an even more difficult decision) and is not due to financial difficulty. After taking the 2020 season off to learn more about COVID, the insights we gained helped us to maneuver COVID precautions with hard work and patience from our guests and staff. We are grateful for all those who chose to roll over their 2020 trips and visit us in 2021, making it our busiest and best season yet, for both locations.
For those who were planning on a trip this coming summer, thank you for your patience as the office is closed during the month of October. As of today, we are available for those with questions regarding an already booked 2022 trip and deposit. All deposits placed for 2022 trips will be refunded in full. If you were hoping to book a new reservation in Alaska for 2022, please check out some of our favorite Alaskan operators listed below. While no one else is Great Alaska Adventures, we have worked with all of these companies for years, and I know you'll be happy with their trips.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and from each of the owners, we hope that all your future travels will be fun, safe, and full of Adventure!
