Kenai River Salmon Fishing
Your Alaska Family Vacation will begin with a pick up at your hotel (3 designated pickup spots) in Anchorage at 7:30 am for the scenic and comfortable trip to Great Alaska Adventure Lodge. After a thorough orientation, you’ll enjoy lunch and meet your guide and head out for the fish. Depending upon the season you'll powerboat or drift boat the Kenai or Kasilof river. All trips are based upon species availability- ask your adventure expert for the species available during the time frame you are booking. Return to lodge for happy hour and dinner. (Check out our "Ultimate Family Adventure" itinerary with BearCamp here)
Today we'll float through the turquoise clear waters of the upper Kenai River and it's prodigious salmon spawning grounds to see one of nature's most amazing events. This annual returning salmon brings Bear and Eagle (plus wild Trout!) in numbers to feast on salmon eggs and the carcasses of hundreds of thousands of dying salmon. The tumbling aquamarine water rushes along rocks and forest through the younger and "Swiss-Alp" inspired Kenai Mountains. Gourmet lunch served shore side by your guide with Reindeer sausage and a robust Merlot for the grown ups.
Kenai Fjords Glacier & Wildlife Cruising
Today we'll cruise the incomparable Kenai Fjords National Park! On the way to Seward we'll stretch our legs by walking to the face of a retreating Glacier close enough to almost touch. Then it's on to Seward to spend the rest of this day cruising and seeking calving Glaciers, Humpback whales and Orca, charming Sea Otters and endangered Stellar Sea Lions. Return to the lodge in time for happy hour, dinner and evening activities for the energetic kids and relaxation on the deck for the adults.
Today we'll enjoy a single day of incredible fly in bear viewing at a fly in location (not at. our own BearCamp). Experience the Brown bears of Alaska in rugged wilderness, then return to main lodge for happyhour, dinner and overnight. Cast for salmon after dinner? Or just watch the river roll by on one our giant decks overlooking the majestic Kenai.
Kayaking on Hidden Lake
Today we'll spend the afternoon on one of our beautiful wilderness lakes, paddling our safe and stable kayaks in a gorgeous setting. Perfect for beginners and strong paddlers alike, we'll explore the coastline and wildlife of the area and find an island to hop out and spread out the lunch. A great way to combine a little exercise with a fun activity in a gorgeous area. Return to lodge in the early afternoon with diner and happy hour to follow.
The Chugach Mountains and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge are renowned for their range of hiking options. Our favorite is a gentle hike to a raised viewing platform over a rushing Alaska river, where we'll hope to see Sockeye salmon leaping towards their natal spawning grounds. For those who still have energy, we may continue on to a spectacular sub-alpine lake for lunch. After photos, we'll head back to the lodge for dinner.
Kayaking on the Moose River
This morning we'll paddle into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge- leaving civilization behind as we head towards our tent camp on the Moose river. Nesting Swans, giant Moose, Beaver, Lynx and more call this region home. Return to the lodge in time for check out and depart (Return to Anchorage flight not included in package cost).
