Great Alaska Adventures Bald Eagle Float trips focus on the amazing American Bald Eagle. As we float the majestic Kenai river, we'll drift silently under the nests (always placed next to the river so that the eagles can see salmon floating downstream, or struggling to stay submerged if they are nearing the end. The juxtaposition of the eaglse and the prodigous salmon runs that enter the Kenai every year are a true inspiration, and perfect for photographers, lovers of wilderness and wildlife, families and fishermen. Our Bald Eagle viewing trips may change stretchs of river based on the timing of the salmon and where the fish are spawining, but we'll see dozens of nests and eagles, both adult and imature as we float the river.
As the salmon congregate in the spawning beds, the amount of food for the eagles keeps increasing the more and more birds activitly "work" the river for salmon, but they are opportunistic feeders and we've seen them feed on ducks, trout and even seagulls on occasion! This makes the later portions of the season (july and august) the very best time to see the largest quanity of Eagles, however we see them on all of our trips every day of the season.
