aRRIVAL dAYFly into the San Jose airport on your own schedule and catch a cab for the 20 - 25 minute trip downtown. (cab, meals and hotel not included in package price). We'll make a reservation for you at our favorite local hotel, the Presidente (unless you prefer to make your own choice) and pick you up there the following morning. Dinner is on your own, with lots of great choices including within the hotel itself. San Jose is a great Central American city and you we love watching the people walk by on their way home from work as we dine "al fresco" in the restaurant in the ground floor of the hotel. |

Day 1Your driver will arrive to pick you up at 7:00 am at your hotel as you cross rugged mountains, a cloud forest and a working banana plantation before reaching "the end of the jungle road. Your first adventure will be a whitewater raft trip on either the Pacuare or Reventazon rivers. These are world famous for their combination of whitewater and remote wilderness. After the rafting, we'll continue a bit farther by van to Cano Blanco, where you'll board a riverboat for final journey (20 minutes) up river to the island paradise known as Jungle Tarpon Lodge in time for Happy Hour. Dinner will feature fresh fish and local fruits and vegetables (some grown on the lodge grounds). Overnight at the lodge to the chirping of crickets and the chatter of the resident Howler Monkeys. |

Day 2A full day of activity. Following an early breakfast, we'll head upriver to one of the Wilderness Rivers for a day of wildlife and scenic viewing and photography. The Tortuguero Jungle and National Park is the jewel of Costa Rica’s park system, and not to be missed while in the country. An incredible day, we'll hope to see the resident Saltwater Crocodiles, Manatee, three- toed Sloth, and one of the greatest bird populations on the planet. We will break up the day with lunch at the lodge before heading out for different river exploration. Return to the lodge for Happy hour and dinner. |
Day 3Fishing! Today is a full day of Tarpon or Snook fishing. You will start the morning early with an offshore excursion into the Caribbean Sea, (ocean conditions permitting) where the schools of Tarpon cruise in search of food. We will work to intercept the passing schools of Tarpon moving close to shore. The Tarpon are large and strong, so not all fish make it to the boat..each one that does is a trophy! Around lunchtime, we'll return to the lodge for lunch and a brief siesta, and then head out in smaller Jon boats for another species- perhaps Tarpon or Snook in the Jungle Rivers. Return to lodge for happy hour, dinner and overnight. | |

Day 4Today brings another wonderful jungle adventure...experience the mystical waters of Rio California and it's massive Ficus trees, explore the very beaches where turtles nest each year or walk the streets of the wonderful village of Parismina and meet some of the friendly locals. Return to the lodge for happy hour and overnight. |

Day 5Today is another day of fishing for a Sport fishing legend ---the Costa Rican Tarpon. The morning will be offshore cruising the coastline amidst the feeding schools which may at times surround the boat. The morning will end around 11:00amwhen the day starts to turn warm. Head to the lodge for a relaxing lunch at the riverside dining pavilion. The afternoon will see you exploring the backwater lagoons of various rivers in Tortuguero National Park. Two anglers per flat bottom Jon boat will use spin or fly to cast to the tailing Tarpon and Snook, often in site of lazy but wary big crocodiles. Head back in late afternoon in time for Happy Hour at the main lodge. |

Day 6Following your last breakfast at the Jungle Lodge, you will depart by boat and private van for Arenal Volcano. On the way, there will be an opportunity to don a harness and swing through the forest canopy on a Zip Line ride. It is pretty thrilling, a little intimidating, but safe and really a hoot. You will enjoy the experience and be proud of yourself for the adventure. And you will have a great picture for the mantle back home. A little later you will be sitting on the deck of your room and gazing at the amazing sight of an erupting volcano. It is particularly dramatic at night, when you can also see the glowing lava as it spews from the top. One of our favorite events is to sit in the hot pool grottoes and streams of hot water coming down from the mountain, with the rumbling as a backdrop. (Only Dinner is included on Day 6 and 7). Overnight at Arenal at one of our favorite resorts. |

Departure dayRise at a comfortable hour and take your breakfast within sight and sound of the volcano. After breakfast, we will head toward the capital, San Jose, stopping en route at the Artisan community of Saarchi. Saarchi is well known for its indigenous art and for the selection of authentic souvenirs that our clients like to take back home. You and your personal guide will continue on to San Jose, arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon. |
