Turnagain Tour

Day 1 "Turnagain Arm" tour

Today your guide and Alaska Nature photographer will meet you at your hotel and get everyone on the road. We will spend the day photographing the spectacular vistas on the way to the lodge.  Hopefully the Bald eagle nest will have their early chicks out.  Visit Potter Marsh for birds, Cook Inlet for scenic shots followed by lunch at the top of our ski resort - Mt Alyeska.  We will then continue down the Seward highway with lots of time to photograph on the way to the lodge.  Check in to lodge in the afternoon in time for a little down  time, then enjoy happy hour, dinner and overnight.

BearCamp

Day 2 - BUSH PLANE FLIGHT to Bearcamp

Today we'll wake with coffee to your door, then after breakfast enjoy a calm water paddle on the Moose River, targeting moose, beaver and waterfowl in a unique meandering river environment, and then we'll return to the lodge and head to the airstrip for your spectacular flight to Bearcamp.  After landing, you'll receive a thorough orientation with the BearCamp staff on living in Bear Country, and spend the day viewing the prince of Alaskan wildlife - the Coastal Brown Bear.  Overnight in Weather Weather-Port  Tent-cabins with propane heat and light.

Day 3 full day at BearCamp

Day 3 - a full day with the bears

A full day with the bears and true wilderness.  More time getting shots of the amazing bruins in their native habitat with majestic Mt. Illiamna in the background. We'll experience the bears on our exclusive raised platform overlooking the Mt. Illiamna meadow and creek.  At times, we'll hike a short distance to some ground level viewing spots to get a different perspective.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in the main dining tent.  Overnight in Tent-cabins.

Final Day at BearCamp

Day 4 - your final day with the bears

Today you'll enjoy one of the amazing local trails that make the Chugach National Forest and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge justly famous.  Choose from a moderate, mostly level and fairly short trail to the Russian River falls to view salmon leaping towards their native spawning grounds- or select a more aggressive hike that will break a sweat and culminate in a fantastic view of the surrounding snow capped peaks...it's your choice and there are many to choose from!  Return from the camp via bush plane flight in time to check back into your riverfront cabin, then enjoy happy hour and dinner.

Day 5 - Kenai Fjords Glacier/Wildlife cruise

Today we embark on a scenic wildlife and glacier cruise in the incomparable Kenai Fjords National Park!  The protected waters of Resurrection Bay and Aialik bay are some of the most amazing regions on earth and are an absolute "must have" on  your wildlife photo "life book.”  Your intrepid leader is renowned for her Orca and whale shots and will be on hand to help you with getting quality shots from the deck of a 100 foot cruise boat.  Along the short drive to Seward, we'll stretch our legs by walking to the face of a retreating Glacier close enough to nearly touch for a few "macro" shots of blue ice...then it's on to Seward to spend the rest of this day cruising and seeking calving Glaciers, Humpback whales and Orca, charming Sea Otters, peculiar puffins and endangered Stellar Sea Lions. Return to the lodge in time for happy hour, dinner and overnight.

Bald Eagle Float Trip

Day 6 - Bald Eagle float trip on Kenai River

Today your group will float through the aquamarine waters of the upper Kenai river...one of Alaska’s most prodigious salmon spawning grounds.  This annual event brings Bear and Eagle in numbers to feast on salmon eggs and the carcasses of hundreds of thousands of dying salmon.  Along with the migration of the huge Caribou herds, this is one of Alaska’s most impressive outdoor events.  Shore side lunch will be served by your guide with reindeer sausage, fun cheeses and a robust Merlot or sparking cider following our trip through the beautiful Kenai Canyon.  Return to lodge for happy hour, dinner and overnight.

Taste of the Kenai Tour

Day 7 - "Taste of the Kenai" Homer tour

Off to the beautiful town of Homer on stunning Kachemak Bay! Made famous as "The End of the Road" in Tom Bodett's tales, Homer is at the end of the Sterling Highway, 200 miles south of Anchorage, surrounded by wilderness and ocean. The Homer Spit features the longest road into ocean waters in the world.  It is a great place to photograph all kinds of interesting people, art, scenery all in one place.  It is known also for amazing food. We'll take in the some local wines, Beers, Meads and the thriving art and cuisine scene and enjoy dinner at a great local spot.

Downtown Talkeetna

Day 8 - off to Denali - flight seeing trip

And now the Denali Experience!  We’ll depart in the morning for the incredibly scenic trip north, with stops at Turnagain Arm and Beluga Point (in hopes of spotting a "bore tide") then continue north past Anchorage towards the Alaska Range’s rugged and forbidding peaks.  All this with  Mt. Susitna (known locally as “sleeping lady”) in the distance.  Finally, it's on to the historic bush community of Talkeetna (base camp for the Denali climbs).  You and your guide will walk the old streets of this unique and quirky town within view of the tallest mountain in North America. We'll enjoy a spectacularly scenic flight see of Denali National Park and Preserve from Talkeetna, then overnight at one of our favorite local inns.

Denali Nat. Park Tour

Day 9 - Denali Wilderness road tour

An early drive will find us at the entrance to our largest National Park where you will board one of the famous Tour Buses for the wildlife tundra tour into Denali National Park.  Wolves, Brown and Black bear, Dall sheep, Caribou, Moose, Coyote, Red Fox and Lynx call this massive park home.   Traffic is restricted to only these buses and you and a few others will receive a narrated tour of the history, wildlife and grandeur of this incomparable location.  Every trip is different, however along with the animals, places like Polychrome Pass, the Savage River and Teklanika will stay with you forever.  They're the perfect complement to all you saw on the Kenai Peninsula portion of your photo safari.  Dinner and overnight at the park entrance at one of our favorite inns at the park entrance.

Day 10

DAY 10  - RETURN TO ANCHORAGE VIA ALASKA RAILROAD

Today you can rise early and relax on your deck in view of the sweeping vista laid out before you.  We'll choose between a visit the racing dog kennel of an Iditarod Champion  or a moderate wilderness hike before we head back to your hotel in Anchorage.  Our return to Anchorage via Alaska Railroad gives us one last, unique way to get some great shots of the terrain between the park and Anchorage...and of course the long days of June allow for great shooting right up to your arrival in Anchorage at 8:30 pm.  Return to Airport or your hotel in Anchorage for the night is on your own.
