Seasons of the Tarpon...

Tarpon Fishing in Mexico"Baby Tarpon, Snook, Barracuda etc.  Nov 1 - March 31

When it comes to Tarpon Fishing Seasons, Baby Tarpon (and many other species) are available year round when the weather allows.  Even the smallest of  Silver King can put on quite a show for anglers, spending most of the fight in the air rather than the water.   Mid sized and larger "baby Tarpon" in the 15-25 pound range are, in this writers opinion, in the running for pound for pound the hardest fighting fish on the planet Tarpon are able to live in both salt and fresh water with small waters making the chance of landing fish quite low, but it is truly a "high risk/high reward" scenario.  Every tarpon landed (and of course released) is a trophy, regardless of size. These amazing creatures have the strength of Atlas, the courage of Hercules and simply refuse to give in. Only those who are prepared to give their all will be successful!  The fish are able to destroy most tackle and battles of over an hour are the norm not an exception. While most of our guests target the great fish with flies, spinning tackle is also an effective method.

Burning Drag on Tarpon"Giant migratory offshore Tarpon.  April 1 - September 31

the Giant Tarpon are generally found May through September, when the calmer seas allow for delivering your fly to the fish traveling fish.  Tarpon are able to live in both salt and fresh water, and the larger fish in the back waters ("baby tarpon areas") when hooked are simply dazzling, with the speed of a cheetah and the power of a rhino.

Every adult tarpon landed (and of course released) is a trophy, regardless of size. These amazing creatures have the strength of Atlas, the courage of Hercules and simply refuse to give in. Only those who are prepared to give their all will be successful!  The fish are able to destroy most tackle and battles of over an hour are the norm, not an exception. While most of our guests target the great fish with flies, spinning tackle is also an effective method, and we employ it at times.  Truly one of the worlds great gamefish.

Sustainably targeted..........

These magnificent fish, like so many of the world's great game fish, are always in jeopardy, from a thousand variables.  We practice exclusively catch and release and use single hooks, no bait and release all fish very carefully.  When choosing your tackle choose a weight that allows you to stand your ground when latched into the truly big fish, and bring it to boat in the shortest time possible to preserve the fishes energy (and yours!)  Ask our office about recommendations or to ask about the gear you already have.

We encourage you to learn about the species you most enjoy.
