Great Alaska Adventure Lodge has been in continuous operation for nearly thirty years, following a "leave no trace" policy for all of our remote camps, and work continuously to improve recycling, energy reduction and carbon impact, and increase customer awareness within out sport fishing, wilderness recreation and wildife viewing programs.    Operating with the environment rather than off of it, we have promoted minimal harvest for salmon and catch and realease for all native species for over 25 years.

Wild Alaska salmon stocks are one of America's most prized resources...and the Sockeye, Chinook, Cohoe, Chum and Pink salmon returns each year to Bristol bay, Cook Inlet and Southeast Alaska are one of nature's most enduring legacies.  Great Alaska Adventure Lodge's home river, the mighty Kenai River, is the crown jewel of Alaska salmon fisheries.  Great Alaska Adventure Lodge's committment to protecting all of our salmon returns is ingrained in each staff member.  Each and every guide is licensed with the state of Alaska, and has completed the Kenai River Guide Academy- the most extensive and thorough training program for freshwater salmon guides in the world.  In addition, we are members of the Kenai River Professinoal guides Association, whose #1 goal is protecting the uniqe salmon stocks that make up the kenai watershed.

In addition to promoting Catch and release for native species for our sport fishing guests and educating all of our guests in the inter-connected nature of species, environment and traveler.  Owner Kent John is currently in his 3rd year as president of the Alaska Wilderness Recreation & Tourism Association.  (AWRTA) is a members-driven trade association formed to be a collective voice for wilderness-dependent businesses, advocating for the sustainability of Alaska's natural and cultural resources, responsible tourism and tourism planning for communities.

In recognition of our committment to the environment, Great Alaska was awarded a Silver Level certification from Adventure Green Alaska (AGA), Alaska's only sustainability certification program.  AGA is a certification program for tourism businesses operating in Alaska that meet specific standards of economic, environmental, and social sustainability. Administered by an independent, Alaska nonprofit corporation, AGA encourages tourism businesses to evaluate their operations and determine whether they use - or could be using - best management practices.
