These waters are well known as one of the premier spots to catch a Tarpon of 100 pounds and more. Less well know, however, is that the supporting cast of species offshore and polling in the flats and lagoons is truly world class even without the presence of the "Silver King".
Smaller Species and the Mangrove flats
While the huge offshore tarpon fishing draw fly and spinning enthusiasts from around the globe, it it our belief that this more delicate (and at some times easy and other times quite challenging) fishing in the mangroves is it's equal. In addition, the experience of your guide poling the small boat in the shallows, developing your eye to spot the feeding fish and finally delivering your fly ahead of the groups of moving fish is nothing less than exhilarating.Variety of Species
The Grand Slam species are manifold..Jack Crevalle, Cobia, Snook, Baby Tarpon, Barracuda, and even the occasional marauding Permit all fall victim to our guests' well delivered flies, and when the water is calm the offshore Tarpon join in the fray. You may expect to encounter Permit and Bonefish on the flats and Cobia, Snapper, Jacks, Grouper and Barracuda whenever you cast offshore. Fly fishermen are conditioned to target the Tarpon (and who wouldn’t want the opportunity for such a trophy) but the spin fishermen and those looking for more action on the end of the line will appreciate the variety available. You might even try your hand at the age old "Hand Line" for Sea Tout no matter where you find the boat. Spin fishing is highly productive and generally produces fresh fish for the nightly Ceviche at Happy Hour.
