I went down to Holbox Fly fishing Lodge last winter with my family...My dad said...
Isla Holbox Wildlife viewing & More Holbox is so much more than a world class fly fishing destination...it's truly a one of a kind, end of the road destination that appeals to almost everyone. From Sun Seekers (a "world's best beach") to wildlife viewers (swim with whale sharks, photograph pink flamingos, swim the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico or explore the wide array or great bistros and cafe's and upscale restaurants of this quaint village.
It's no wonder the giant whale sharks come to Holbox Island to cavort...Isla Holbox itself is the quintessential “end of the road”. Swim with these gentle creatures on a whale shark tour. Explore the island by golf cart, swim in the Mayan Cenote ("sweet water")spring, horseback ride on the beach or kayak up-Island...or of course read a good book just steps from your room . This is a truly amazing destination and our lovely lodge on the beach is just the place to explore it!
The nearby Yucatan Jungles, rich with Mayan culture and ruins, are populated with the descendants of a civilization that mysteriously eroded hundreds of years ago. Some of the near area highlights include the Mayan Ruins, an island golf cart tour (the only vehicles allowed on the island), horseback riding on the beach, and swimming in the Cenote Springs. Custom trips can included a trip to one of the most famous of Mayan Ruins-- Chichen Itza or Ek Balam .
Late afternoon and evenings will be spent on the sand and then on the beautiful terrazzo, sharing a cocktail while watching another spectacular sunset. You won't find anything like this at your typical Yucatan hotels..this is Isla Holbox Flyfishing Lodge!
