Whichever itinerary you select, your Great Alaska Family Adventure will explore wildlife, learn to cast a fly or spinner, the "J-Stroke" in a cane, view bears from a safe raised platform, spot whales and glaciers in Kenai Fjords National Park, and learn about the culture of early Alaska explorers and homesteaders. All this and more, with the lodge based trips based from the comfort of your base camp for the week, our riverside Kenai River Adventure Lodge, and our remote fly in Bear viewing camp and our SafariCamp® riverside tent camp at the border of the Kenai River National Wildlife Refuge.
Families have traveled to Great Alaska with their children and grandchildren for over two decades to learn the J stroke in canoes, to walk in game trails worn deep by centuries of passing moose, view bears in their native habitat and to catch their first Alaskan salmon on a fly. Our Family Adventures cover the full range of Great Alaska activities and are tailored to the energy levels of each of the travelers. The days are filled with hiking, rafting and flat water paddling- plus Bear Viewing, glacier cruises, and of course fishing. Whichever trip you choose, there is excellent fishing off the beach right in front of your cabins in the evenings, so you'll have plenty of opportunity to get that priceless photo of one of your children with their first (or 20th!) salmon!
EVENING Activities
While the days start early and end in the late afternoon, it is often not enough to slow down the energy level of the children. In the evenings, parents may choose to relax on the expansive river view deck with a glass of wine while the kids learn to cast a fly rod or paddle in the warm and shallow waters of the beautiful Moose river.
