Costa Rica Sport Fishing

Stories of Costa Rica Sport Fishing for Tarpon and Costa Rica Billfishing are historic. For forty years, the Costa Rica Caribbean coast has been the place to hook trophy Tarpon. Whether offshore intercepting schools of feeding Tarpon or casting flies on a Jungle River, you will experience one of sport fishing’s most treasured experiences.

On your days in the salt, you’ll skim along the shoreline in search of large Tarpon feeding on baitfish. After spotting the telltale birds groups excitedly following the bait schools, your guide will position the boat above the fish and drift your live bait, lure or fly to the fish. The fish attacking bait on the surface or birds caught up in the excitement, you’ll cast live bait, lures or flies above a feeding group, and wait for the gentle strike that becomes so much more!!  After setting the hook, 60 to 150 pounds of pure muscle will scream to the surface in one of the most amazing sights in all of sport fishing. Incredible fishing.

Offshore storms at times preclude comfortable ocean fishing, on which days the target will be Snook or one of the many other small species available in Rio California and other secret lagoons within the jungle. You’ll enjoy this fishing even on days when the weather is perfect… this is fishing that shouldn’t be missed!

Generally fishing two per guide, you will experience true variety as you target fresh and saltwater Tarpon, fresh and intertidal Snook, ultra light spinning or fly fishing for Guapote (a crappie like fish), trolling for trophy snook, and Costa Rica billfishing. Every day will bring a new adventure in an incredible environment that seems to have sprung from your own imagination..
