All Mexico Trips

On the Northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, just a few minutes from the mainland, sits a crescent shaped island of sugar white sand.  Nearly undiscovered for hundreds of years, it now takes it’s rightful place as one of the “must see” locations for traveling anglers and wildlife lovers.  It’s incredible location at the tip of the Yucatan, combined with a truly unique series of mangrove style lagoons has created a fishery of amazing consistency.  Summertime trips can combine the huge offshore trophy tarpon with the smaller “nursery” style fishing of the back channels.  In addition, the incredible Nurse sharks enter the area in large numbers at the same time to provide a bounty of the sea.

Summer fishing focuses on the big tarpon, so 12 weight rods are the norm.  most guests will also spend some time targeting the smaller species for a break, and because it’s so fun!    Plan on lots of casting to visually surfacing fish, with you guide poling you from likely spot to likely spot and then helping you spot the fish.  

In addition to the incredible fishing, the quaint and one-of-a-kind village is one you will not soon forget. Transportation is via golf carts and sandals and the variety of restaurants, shops and entertainment make your time off the water unforgettable.

Logistics are a snap- fly into Cancun from anywhere, and overnight at one of the many hotels.  You’ll be met at the hotel the next morning by your shuttle driver, who will take you 2 hours north to Chiquila for a 45 minute ferry trip to the Island, where you will be met and shuttled  by golf cart to Isla Holbox Flyfishing Lodge.
