Great Alaska Adventure Lodge Day trips
Great Alaska Adventure Lodge has been offering world class day trips for Kenai River guided sport fishing for nearly two decades. In addition, our world renowned bear viewing camp in Lake Clark National Park was named "Best Bush Camp in North America" by outside magazine, and we offer single day experiences as well as 1 and 2 night packages as well. These two type of trips may be the perfect extension of your Alaskan Cruise or your independent tour of Alaska. We warn you, however, that many of our guests, after spending time with us, wish they have allotted more time!
All of our day trips include a pickup at one of three Anchorage locations...2 near the airport and one downtown. The bear viewing experiences are generally a "drive in" experience, however if you choose, the round trip van transfer is available at no extra charge for the fishing as well as bear viewing experiences.
One Day fishing from Anchorage
Our one-Day Kenai River Fishing Trips (with transfers) depart from Anchorage at 7:45am. A lunch is provided at the lodge, then you'll hit the river with one our excellent licensed guides. All guides have completed a Kenai River guide training course, are current in first aid and CPR and operate custom power and driftboats specifically designed for our home river. June and July generally focus on the world famous Kenai King salmon (the word's largest salmon) with August and September featuring feisty Silver Salmon and or Rainbow Trout. (All day trips are a "catch of the day" scenario...the species you will be targeting will depend upon river conditions and your guides discretion). Please check our seasonal chart for the available species during your specific time frame. Please keep in mind that much like our one day bear viewing, each and every day of the season is to itself unique. Our large Kenai River King Salmon, in particular, are a trophy species and not everyone catches their trophy- however the beautiful round trip from Anchorage, along with time spent on this beautiful river make every trip a success. If you have any questions about the type of fishing you will be experiencing, please contact our expert office staff today.
Your day fishing trip will feature 4-5 hours of guided fishing, lunch and a single day fishing license. King Salmon trips will also include a necessary single day King Salmon Stamp. At the end of your fishing, you'll return to the lodge and any fish you have chosen to retain will be cleaned. Boxes and gel packs are an additional charge, as are overnight shipping to your home. Call our office for additional information regarding seasons, fish preparation and seasonal restrictions. ONE DAY FISHING IS NOT AVAILABLE ON MONDAYS OR TUESDAYS IN JULY AND MONDAYS IN AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER DUE TO SEASONAL FISHING RESTRICTIONS. ALL FISHING TRIPS ARE AFFECTED BY ANY SEASONAL CLOSURES OR EMERGENCY RESTRICTIONS FROM FISH AND GAME AND ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
One day/overnight Bear Viewing
One-Day Trips (with transfers) depart from Anchorage at 7:45am. A lunch is provided at the lodge, then a quick transfer to the Soldotna airfield for the 40-50 minute flight to Bear Camp. Day trips will spend approximately 1½ hours on the ground viewing the mighty bruins before flying back to Soldotna , then shuttling back to the main lodge. After a little down time to stretch your legs and view your pictures, you'll depart by van for Anchorage, arriving approximately 7:30 to 9:00, depending upon a variety of factors. Clients who opt to drive in will meet at our main lodge at 11:00am for check-in and instructions. Secure Vehicle parking is available for bear camp clients. (Sorry, RV parking overnights or camping are not available at Great Alaska Adventure Lodge.) Like single day sport fishing adventures, a variety of factors contribute to make every day unique and unlike any other...and because of the bears transient nature, we highly recommend overnight experiences for all of our bear viewing guests. That being said, however the June 1 - July 10th time frame generally produces consistent enough viewing that day trips are usually productive.
Overnight Bear Viewing Trips begin the same as the day trip, with all day spent viewing the bears and exploring the area around the camp, followed by dinner and overnight at the camp. After breakfast, more quality time spent watching and photographing the great bears and other wildlife, followed by a flight back to Soldotna some time after noon (depending upon tides, weather and variety of other factors). Those who have chosen round trip transfers from Anchorage will return to Anchorage in the late afternoon, arriving approximately 7:00 - 9:00 pm at your hotel. Those with rental cars will be on their own upon arrival to Soldotna. Due to the transient nature of these great animals, Overnight experiences are recommended, although we do offer single day experiences in the month of June.
