A typical day of Tarpon Fishing

The day normally begins at 6:00 on the beach in front of the lodge. Your day will generally be 8 hours long and includes lunch and water. You can bring some beer from the lodge if you like. Giant and baby Tarpon will be the primary target of your fishing trip. They are in open water and you will remain offshore as long as the wind conditions allow. Later in the morning or early afternoon we will move to the mangrove lagoons and fish for baby Tarpon and Snook until mid afternoon. We will be back at the lodge around 2:00.

Bring your own fly fishing equipment but if you prefer, however Holbox Fly Fishing Lodge can rent you top quality gear at a reasonable rate for your convenience You are invited to bring your spin gear if that is your preference.
The classic classic Panga fiberglass boats you'll be casting from are well suited for the fishing waters offshore as well as inside and on the flats.
Your guide will have radio contact with the village, GPS and life jackets. You will be fishing in water ranging from 2 to 6 feet deep in the mangroves, and 6 to 20 feet deep outside.
Bring your favorite rods (see individual species for recommendations), you can get your Mexico fly fishing license on Holbox Island ($25/week).

Upon your return, you'll wash down your rods in the rod cleaning station and perhaps a siesta in the lounges on the beaches edge- or a cold drink as you watch the sun drop into the Gulf. Later, Luciano will have the happy hour beverages and hors d’oeuvres ready for you and the guide as we discuss the day’s activity and then plan the schedule for the following morning. Our manager will advise you on the various excellent restaurant options available for you after happy hour. This will be your general schedule for each of your memorable fishing days while at Holbox Flyfishing Lodge.
