Open Positions Deck Hands--Deckhand- entry-level position; deck hand on our halibut boat 3 or 4 days a week (maintenance crew remainder of time.) All other pistions are filled Year Round Positions: Office Coordinator A position is available for an entry-level office coordinator to assist in the daily IT, marketing, accounting and sales activities of our adventure travel resorts operations. Typical IT duties will include maintaining an internet marketing program, researching new marketing opportunities and leads, light website maintenance and computer support. Graphic Design and E-commerce skills are required (applicants with a strong computer background in other areas may be able to learn on the job). Other duties will include basic accounting entries and account reconciliation along with day-to-day office functions. Note: This position is located in Washington State (sales office) for 6 months and Alaska (adventure resorts) for 6 months. Housing can be arranged. An Ideal candidate would be very analytical, with a background in office support and administration. A recent college graduate is preferred or equivalent background in computer and internet applications. This job is open to entry-level graduates who are looking for something other than the typical corporate experience. We will train the right individual. Individual must work well as part of a team. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAFARIS Safaris Manager- As the department head for the Safari Division, the Safaris manager is in charge of overseeing the planning, packing and execution of Safaris ranging from mountain biking, sea kayaking, Bear Camp operations, day hikes, Class 1&2 rafting and Seacoast Adventure Camp overnights (i.e. Resurrection Bay). Also included is the supervision and training of 11 Safari Guides, providing superior guest service while adhering to the policies and procedures set forth by the officers of Great Alaska. In addition, responsibilities will include supervision of maintence and control of all equipment, rolling stock and provisions. Fundamental computer experience is essential. Kayak Guide- help set-up, maintain (which includes light plumbing and construction) and break-down our "Seacoast Adventure Camp". Duties include leading Sea Kayak Excursions which offer our guests a safe and informative experience with emphasis on the flora and fauna of the region. 1) In addition, but not limited to, will be the transport, care and feeding of 6 - 12 guests per week (June 10 - September 10). You will be responsible for the procurement and expediting of food and supplies to and from the camp, maintaining the landscape and controlling the waste issues. 2) Must be certified in Advanced First-Aid or Wilderness First Responded and have advanced CPR training and current certification. 3) Should be familiar with kayak rescue techniques. Must also be proficient in braces and self rescues (including Eskimo rolls). 4) Must be comfortable paddling single kayaks in 4-6 foot seas, fully loaded or unloaded in Gale Force winds (30 - 40 knots). 5) Must have excellent personal skills. Raft Guide- previous rafting experience required- rowing frame or Mackenzie style driftboat. (class 2-3). All guides are required to complete Coast Guard limited "Western Rivers" licensing. Emphasis on scenic (not whitewater) and natural history aspect of trips. All guides will lead non-rafting experiences as well. Natural History Guide/Interpreter- must be an excellent communicator and be fun to be around. Up close and personal guest contact on a day to day basis with long hours and multi-tasking environments. Some Alaska experience preferred (though not required) with excellent physical condition. Extensive experience in three or more of the following activities preferred: , mt. biking, canoeing, sea kayaking, hiking, low impact camping, rafting, cooking, fishing and photography. Natural History assistant guide- support for NH guides/ maintenance of equipment and some limited guiding as well. Must be self-starter and physically strong/excellent with people. Safari Procurement and Support- As a cohesive part of a team oriented environment, you will participate in the execution of all the safari activities offered by Great Alaska Adventure Lodge. Your responsibilities will include packing all the food for activities; which include, mountain biking, hikes, class 1 wilderness kayaking, advanced camp sets in a seacoast adventure camp and bear camp, in addition to the care and maintenance of equipment and transportation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REMOTE CAMP Great Alaska operates three remote camps- one in Lake Clark Nat. Park (brown bear viewing) , one in Kenai National Wildlife Refuge (camping, etc.) and on Skilak Lake (kayaking, hiking, etc.) must be able to spend long periods of time in a remote location. Guides must have a great deal of outdoors experience and be very self-reliant and physically fit. Cooking skills required and people skills a must. Bear Camp (LCNP)--Spectacular, private fly in bear viewing camp. Staff responsibilities include: camp upkeep, housekeeping, gear maintenance, cooking and guiding. Knowledge of firearm safety is important. Good people skills a must. Knowledge of natural history, fishing, flora and fauna of Alaska is a plus. Adventure Camp Staff (KNWR)--Highly mobile, zero impact camping in multiple locations in wildlife refuge. Extensive powerboat experience (sailing/power, ocean/big lake)is required. Applicant required to complete Coast Guard "Western Rivers" licensing. Must be able to spend long periods of time in a remote setting. Attention to detail and cleanliness required. Cooking and outdoor skills a must. Strong hiker and kayaker. Perfect person is a great boater, extensive camping experience, physically strong with a great work and "leave no trace" ethic. Kenai Wildlife Lodge Staff (KNWR)-- Boat-in remote camp with small day lodge and 7 semi-permanent cabin/tents. Tidiness required. Cooking skills, customer service, time and staff management required. Responsible for camp upkeep, food preparation and evening entertainment for clients. Private accommodations- perfect for in independent, hard working couple. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FISHING All Great Alaska fishing guides must be able to work as a team. Back trolling, drifting and at-anchor spinfishing experience required. Flyfishing a plus- guides are on time and cordial and informative to guests at all times. Our guide staff is the best in the state Riverboat Salmon Guide- must have current Coast guard certificate (6-pack) and be an extremely punctual, energetic, reliable and safe boater. Wadefishing Guide- entry-level guide position; must be excellent spin and fly, great with people and able to produce fish in a variety of environments. Northwest style salmon/steelheader is perfect fit. Great way to begin guiding career. "Sea Legs" a necessity. Driftboat Guide- must have extensive experience rowing rafts or hardboats on western rivers. Balance is same requirements of riverboat guide (no six pack req’d). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LODGE HOSPITALITY All positions require excellent work ethic- knack for neatness and an eye for detail. Ability to work with a group and be self-motivated. We are known for hospitality staff that is excellent and great with guests. All positions require a good attitude and the ability to spot things that are out of place. Head of Housekeeping- Manager of housekeeping- must be able to manage staff for goal of perfect room maintenance and happy clients. Housekeeping- room and main lodge maintenance/laundry- no experience required, but must be efficient and organized. AM and PM Concierge-- Am Concierge is the “Official Starter of the Day” working a split shift 4:00am-8:00am / 5:00pm- 8:00pm. Duties include morning guest wake up, expedite guest to their respective guide and activity, assist kitchen team in buffet breakdown and table bussing, clean the lodge and bathroom, cleaning and stocking of the main lodge and bar area. Pm Concierge, in addition to a cheerful personality duties include, assist in lunch breakdown and dinner set up, produce and display menu of the day and table cards, expediting afternoon client activities, set up bar for “Happy Hour”, Bartender from 7:00-8:00pm, assist servers in the dinning room. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OFFICE Office staff concentrates on sales, marketing and day to day operations of the lodge. Computer experience essential, knowledge of basic office software a plus and ability to learn new programs quickly a must. Must be organized, comfortable on the phone and be detail-oriented. Office Assistant- Computer, phone and sales skills required. Must be organized thinker. Outdoor experience is a plus. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MAINTENANCE One of the most important aspects of a resort. We are looking for people with various skills. Problem solvers a must. Ability to work on a deadline, often long hours on a great team. Maintenance Manager- manage other maintenance staff and organize and run daily shuttle schedule. Strong background in vehicle/equipment maintenance and people skills required. "Can do" attitude a must. Ability to organize/ prioritize and complete projects required. Vehicle maintenance/mechanic- varied, strong background in auto and other maintenance required. Able to replace motors. Outboard work a big plus. General camp staff/maintenance- All lodge and surrounding property maintenance. Good work ethic and ability to work long hours with a smile a plus.
